PennyTel invents – others imitate!


PennyTel is without doubt Australia’s most innovative VoIP service provider. Over the years PennyTel has been coming up with so many innovative features that bring real value to its customers. With most of these inventions, the customers have been getting the benefit without having to incur any additional cost.


Let us look at some innovative features that PennyTel introduced to its customers and the VoIP industry in Australia.


Customizable Caller ID – PennyTel allows its users to have a selected telephone number to be displayed by the recipient when they make a call through the PennyTel system. This is a feature that PennyTel customers have been enjoying for over 3 years now. In fact PennyTel customers have taken this feature for granted! Recently one of our competitors introduced under a different name with a lot of fanfare.


The shared access number - This is where someone trying to reach a PennyTel customer calls a local access number and then dials the customer’s account number. By doing so, the caller only pays for a local call. This facility is available to call from Australia, Malaysia, US and the UK. This is also useful when trying to reach a PennyTel customer who does not have a “traditional number”. PennyTel has had this feature for about 5 years… and our competitors copied these recently and one of them went to the extent of copying the name “shared access number” too!


Smart Dial – This is a really a clever innovation by PennyTel… You can save all the numbers you call regularly on the PennyTel website. Then PennyTel assigns a “SmartDial” number to each of the saved numbers. When you want to call any of these people, you just dial their respective SmartDial number. No hassle of dialing a pilot number, then a password and then the destination number! The beauty of this is, if you have linked your home, office and mobile numbers to your Pennytel account (and they don’t have to be PennyTel numbers!), you can call those people by just dialing the SmartDial number assigned by PennyTel! I wonder how long the competition is going to take to make copy this feature!

It is very likely that PennyTel is the only VoIP service provider in Australia who has a mobile phone service as well. In fact they are the only one in Australasia region to have both services. The PennySIM customer has an unbeatable advantage of being able to use the PennySIM to make calls through the PennyTel account. By doing that the PennySIM customers can take calls at VoIP rates while they are on the move! In effect PennySIM customers get mobile calls at prices lesser than what other landline users are paying! This is truly a case of best of both worlds!

PennyTel customer tells a story!

Here is a story from Chris Laugesen, one of hundreds of delighted PennySIM customers. Chris' family was incurring massive phone bills, and decided to have a go at PennySim a couple of months ago. This is what Chris has to say...



"My wife and I switched to PennySIM about 6 months ago. We were not too sure about the service and the level of support. This was mainly because we thought that a company giving such low pricing ($8 monthly fee and just 8c/half a minute) cannot give a quality product! However it did not take us long to realize that the call quality is fantastic. In fact PennySIM uses the Optus network and has the same coverage.


After about a month of using PennySIM, we got our two teenage children to switch to PennySIM too. They were thrilled because they could change the network without losing their existing numbers.


Earlier our total mobile call charges was at least $220 a month. Sometimes much more. Since we switched to PennySIM, our combined mobile charges have never been more than $75! Apart from the call charges being just 8c for half a minute, we find that we save lots of money calling each other in the family, as all calls between PennySIM mobiles are free.

We have now decided to purchase an adaptor to use a PennyTel landline too. Once we do that, we will get the benefit of the really really low priced landline calls. Plus, whenever we call our home PennyTel number from our mobiles, that’s going to be a free call too!
