If you want to subscribe to PennyTel's mobile service, yes - you do have to get a SIM.
However, if you want to take calls at PennyTel's super low call rates, you don't have to purchase any hardware... You can use PennyTel's Softphone on your computer or use any other SIP phone software freely available on the web.
You also have the option of purchasing an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adaptor) which allows you to use an ordinary telephone as your PennyTel phone. With an ATA, you receive and make calls just like the way you do with your regular phone, but there is one difference - you are making those calls at unbelievably low rates! In fact, if you are calling your friends on the PennyTel network your call is absolutely free! Better still, if you have subscribed to a call plan like the Freedom Plan (for just $5 a month) you can call your friends and family in more than 70 countries for free!
